🚀 MCP Protocol Local and Azure Environment Configuration Guide

This guide provides a step-by-step process for configuring the MCP protocol in both local and Azure environments, enabling you to quickly set up, test, and deploy MCP services.

🚀 Quick Start

📦 Installation and Configuration

1.1 Clone the Repository

Execute the following commands in the terminal to clone the MCP sample project:

git clone https://github.com/Azure-Samples/mcp-container-ts
cd mcp-container-ts

1.2 Install Dependencies

Run the following command to install the required dependency packages for the project:

npm install

💻 Start the Local Server

Execute the following command to start the MCP server:

npm start

When the application starts, it creates an SQLite in-memory database to store the tool's status and interaction information.

🧪 Test the MCP Server

3.1 Use the VS Code MCP Configuration File

Locate and open the .vscode/mcp.json file in the project root directory:

Click the start button to connect to the MCP server and retrieve available tools.

3.2 Manually Add the MCP Server

Add the MCP server through the command palette and configure the URL as:

http://localhost:3000/sse

3.3 Use the MCP Inspector

Run the following command in a new terminal window to start the MCP Inspector:

npm run inspect

Then access the Inspector interface via a browser, enter the SSE type and the server URL to establish a connection.

☁️ Deploy to Azure Container Apps

4.1 Install Azure CLI

Install and configure the Azure Developer CLI.

4.2 Log in to the Azure Account

Run the following command to log in:

azd auth login

4.3 Deploy the Service

Use the following command for deployment:

azd up

After the deployment is complete, you will obtain an access URL similar to the following:

https://<env-name>.<container-id>.<region>.azurecontainerapps.io

5.1 Configure the Remote MCP Server

Update the mcp.json file based on the actual deployment information:
