🚀 GitHub MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server

This is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server specifically designed for GitHub. It aims to support MCP-compatible large language models (LLMs), such as Claude, enabling them to communicate with my MCP server and interact via the GitHub API.

🚀 Quick Start

Requirements

TypeScript (Programming language)
Octokit (For sending API requests to GitHub)
Model Context Protocol SDK

Local Project Setup

Clone the repository.
Run npm install.
Create a .env file based on the provided .env.example file.
To compile TypeScript files to JavaScript, run npx tsc.
Finally, to run the project, run node build/index.js.

💻 Usage Examples

Testing Methods

You can test your MCP server in two ways:

Use the MCP Inspector.
Use Claude Desktop.

Testing with the MCP Inspector

Run npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector node build/index.js in the terminal.
Open http://localhost:5173.
You can now use the MCP Inspector and start testing.

Testing with Claude Desktop

Download and install Claude Desktop from here.
Go to File > Settings... > Developer > Edit Configuration in the menu bar.
It will open the location of the claude_desktop_config.json file.
Open the file and add the following content in a code editor:
