MCP Server Firebase

🚀 Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server Based on Firebase

This is an implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) server based on Firebase, offering two operating modes:

1. Local Node.js Mode (using Firebase Admin SDK)
2. Cloudflare Workers Mode (using Firebase REST API)

This MCP server based on Firebase provides a flexible way to operate with Firestore databases. It supports two running modes to meet different development and deployment needs.

📦 Installation

1. Clone this project:

git clone https://github.com/[your_username]/mcp-server-firebase.git
cd mcp-server-firebase

2. Install dependencies:

npm install

Configuration

Local Mode Configuration (Firebase Admin SDK)

1. Download the service account key file from the Firebase console:
   • Go to Firebase Console > Project Settings > Service Accounts > Generate new private key.
2. Save the downloaded JSON file in the project directory (the file name doesn't matter, but remember the path).
3. Set the environment variable:

export SERVICE_ACCOUNT_KEY_PATH="/path/to/your-service-account.json"

Cloudflare Workers Mode Configuration

1. Update the environment variables in the wrangler.toml file:
   • FIREBASE_PROJECT_ID: Your Firebase project ID.
   • FIREBASE_API_KEY: Your Firebase Web API key.
   • FIREBASE_AUTH_DOMAIN: Usually [PROJECT_ID].firebaseapp.com.
2. Or set the environment variables using Cloudflare Secrets:

npx wrangler secret put FIREBASE_PROJECT_ID
npx wrangler secret put FIREBASE_API_KEY
npx wrangler secret put FIREBASE_AUTH_DOMAIN

Running

Local Mode (Firebase Admin SDK)

# Compile TypeScript and run the server
npm run dev

Or use the provided script to set environment variables and run:

# Interactively set environment variables and start the server
node src/index.ts

Cloudflare Workers Mode

cd workers  
npm install && npm run dev

Usage

Initialize the Project

Run in the root directory:

npm install mcp-server-firebase

Start the Server (Local Mode)

npm start

Deploy to Cloudflare Pages

1. Set environment variables in wrangler.toml.
2. Run:

npm run build && npm run deploy

Security Precautions

⚠️ Important Note

• Do not commit service account keys or API keys to the Git repository.
• Ensure that all sensitive information is set as environment variables or Secrets before deployment.
• Set appropriate security rules for Firestore.

Notes

💡 Usage Tip

• src/worker.ts is the version for Cloudflare Workers deployment.
• src/index.ts is the version for local running.
• Make sure the Firebase service account has appropriate permissions.
