🚀 Code Coverage MCP Server

A Codecov Model Context Protocol (MCP) server written in TypeScript. It helps you find the parts of your codebase lacking tests and suggests which tests to write based on Codecov reports.

This server can assist your AI agent in analyzing code coverage. Simply let your AI agent "run the get_commit_coverage_totals tool" in the chat.

Tools

• get_commit_coverage_totals: Returns the total coverage for a given commit and the breakdown by file. It uses this API.

Suggestions

• suggest_tests: Suggests writing tests based on the Codecov report.

📦 Installation

No need to install anything. Just use npx and enter the Codecov API key obtained from here. Go to Settings -> Access.

For Windows, use the following command:

cmd.exe /c npx -y codecov-mcp-server --api-key XXX --git-url XXX

To use it with Claude (or any other AI), add the following to the server configuration:

🔧 Technical Details

Debugging

Since the MCP server communicates via standard input/output, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using MCP Inspector, a package that can be used as a script:

npm run inspector

The Inspector will provide a URL to access the debugging tool in the browser.

Development

Install dependencies:

npm install

Build the server:

npm run build

Develop with automatic rebuild:

npm run watch
