🚀 MCP Server Cookie Cutter Template

A cookie cutter template for creating new MCP (Machine Control Protocol) servers. This template generates a fully functional MCP server with unified transport handling (standard input/output and SSE) and is compatible with MCP Inspector, demonstrated through a simple echo service.

🚀 Quick Start

You can create a new MCP server directly from GitHub or from a local copy of the template.

Option 1: Directly from GitHub

cookiecutter gh:codeium/mcp-cookie-cutter

Option 2: From a Local Copy

1. Clone this template:

git clone https://github.com/codeium/mcp-cookie-cutter

2. Create a project using the local template:

cookiecutter path/to/mcp-cookie-cutter

Template Configuration

When creating a project, the system will ask for the following information:

• project_name: A human-readable name (e.g., "My MCP Server")
• project_slug: A Python package name (e.g., "my_mcp_server")
• description: A short description of the project
• author_name: Your name
• author_email: Your email
• server_port: The port for the SSE server (default: 3001)

📦 Installation

Prerequisites

1. Python 3.11 or higher

python --version  # Should be 3.11 or higher

2. uv (Fast Python package installer)

# If you don't have uv, run the following command to install it
curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

3. Cookie Cutter

uv pip install cookiecutter
