Resource URI Format

• Basic URL format: https://api.github.com/repos/{owner}/{repo}/contents/{path}.

The server requires the following environment variables:

💻 Development

Install dependencies:

npm install

Build the server:

npm run build

Develop with auto-rebuild:

npm run watch

Add the server configuration when using it with Claude Desktop:

📚 API Implementation

The server implements three main MCP endpoints:

1. ListResources - List files and directories in the repository.
2. ReadResource - Get the content of a specific file.

Authentication

The server uses a GitHub personal access token for authentication. Ensure your token has the appropriate permissions to access the repository contents.

Error Handling

The server includes the following error handling features:

• Missing environment variables.
• GitHub API errors.
• Invalid paths (e.g., trying to read a directory as a file).
• Authentication failure.

🐞 Debugging

Debugging can be challenging since the MCP server communicates via stdio. Use the MCP inspector for debugging:

npm run inspector

This will provide a URL to access the debugging tools in the browser.

• Keep your GitHub personal access token secure.
• Consider using a token with the minimum necessary permissions.
• Be aware of the repository size limit, especially when accessing large repositories.
