🚀 MCP Server Overview

The MCP server can be used in the following two ways:

1. Docker Container
2. dotnet Tool

The following table recommends the MCP server version based on your usage scenario:

Since this MCP server uses the MCP C# SDK, it is distributed as a dotnet tool via NuGet. The dotnet 9.0 SDK can be installed on all major operating systems.

You can globally install the Dataverse MCP server as a dotnet tool using the following command:

dotnet tool install -g Mcp.Dataverse.Stdio

📚 Configuration

The following is an example .env file. If you choose to run the MCP server in a container, you can refer to this file. Create a .env file in the workspace folder (at the same level as README.md).

If you use this MCP server in a new folder (not in the cloned code repository), ensure that the .github/copilot-instructions.md file is set up. If you already have a different copilot-instructions.md file, you can also create it as a custom prompt in the .github/prompts folder, for example, dataverse.main.prompt.md, and use it in the chat.

🛠️ GitHub Codespaces Configuration

Select a specific devcontainer.json file and modify the environment variables:

1. Open VS Code and navigate to your project.
2. In the Explorer, find the .devcontainer folder.
3. Open the devcontainer.json file and add the following content to the "extensions" array:

   }
   

4. Save the file and reload the workspace.
