📦 Installation

Prerequisites

• Python 3.9+
• uv package manager (recommended)
• Claude Desktop (for testing integration)

Steps

1. Install uv

For MacOS and Linux:

curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh

For Windows:

powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"

2. Clone the repository

git clone https://github.com/enggpt-it/MCP-Server-Cybersecurity-News.git
cd MCP-Server-Cybersecurity-News

3. Create a virtual environment and install dependencies

# Create a virtual environment
uv venv

# Activate on MacOS/Linux
source .venv/bin/activate

# Activate on Windows
.venv\Scripts\activate

# Install libraries
uv add "mcp[cli]" httpx bs4

Integration with Claude Desktop

1. Open Claude Desktop.
2. Go to File > Settings and select Developer Settings.
3. Click "Edit Configuration".
4. Modify the claude_desktop_config.json file and add:

Replace /your/path/to/uv with the path to your uv executable (find it using which uv on MacOS/Linux and powershell Get-Command uv on Windows), and replace /your/full/project/path/MCP-Server-Cybersecurity-News with the full path of your project.

🔧 Technical Details

The MCP server provides a tool (get_news), which performs the following operations when called:

1. Validate if the request source is supported.
2. Fetch the HTML content from the specified source.
3. Use BeautifulSoup to extract the titles, links, and descriptions of the top 5 news items.
4. Return the extracted text to the AI model.
