🚀 Remote MCP Server Implementation with Azure API Management (Experimental)

This project uses Azure API Management as an AI Gateway to manage the MCP server and implements the latest MCP Authorization Specification.

📦 Installation

Deploy the Remote MCP Server to Azure

1. Register the Microsoft.App resource provider:
   • If you use Azure CLI, run the command: az provider register --namespace Microsoft.App --wait.
   • If you use Azure PowerShell, run the command: Register-AzResourceProvider -ProviderNamespace Microsoft.App. Then run (Get-AzResourceProvider -ProviderNamespace Microsoft.App).RegistrationState to check if the registration is complete.
2. Run the following azd command to provision the API Management service, function app (including code), and all other necessary Azure resources:

azd up

💻 Usage Examples

MCP Inspection Tool

1. In a new terminal window, install and run the MCP inspection tool:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector

2. Press CTRL and click to load the web application of the MCP inspection tool (e.g., http://127.0.0.1:6274/#resources).
3. Set the transport type to SSE.
4. Set the URL to the running API Management SSE endpoint (obtained from the azd output, e.g., https://<apim-servicename-from-azd-output>.azure-api.net/mcp/sse), then connect.
5. List the tools. Click a tool and run the tool.
