Overview

The pubmed_search MCP service implements the function of searching PubMed literature through the MCP protocol.

Functional Features

• Simple and Intuitive Access: Access individual note resources using the custom note:// URI scheme.
• Powerful Storage System: Each note resource includes a name, description, and supports content in the text/plain MIME type.

Component Overview

Resources

This service implements a simple note storage system with the following features:

• Custom note:// URI Scheme: Directly access individual note resources via this URI.
• Attributes of Each Note Resource: Include name, description, and content in the text/plain MIME type.

Prompts

The service provides a prompt:

• summarize-notes: Generate summaries of all stored notes.
  • Optional parameter: "style" to control the level of detail of the summary (concise/detailed).
  • Generate a comprehensive prompt based on the current content of all notes and style preferences.

Tools

The service implements a tool:

• add-note: Add a new note to the server.
  • Accept required parameters: "name" and "content", both of which are string types.
  • Update the server status and notify the client of resource changes.

Development

Build and Release

To prepare the package for release:

1. Synchronize dependencies and update the lock file:

uv sync

2. Build the release version:

uv build

This will create source code and wheel distributions in the dist/ directory.

3. Publish to PyPI:

uv publish

Note: You need to set PyPI credentials via environment variables or command-line parameters:

• Token: --token or UV_PUBLISH_TOKEN
• Or username/password: --username/UV_PUBLISH_USERNAME and --password/UV_PUBLISH_PASSWORD

Debugging

Since the MCP server runs through standard input and output, debugging can be challenging. For the best debugging experience, we highly recommend using MCP Inspector.

You can start the MCP Inspector with the following command:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uv --directory /Users/nofuture/Documents/GitHub/pubmed_search run pubmed-search

After starting, the Inspector will display a URL in the browser, from which you can start debugging.
