A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides system notification functionality using node-notifier.

This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that utilizes node-notifier to offer system notification capabilities.

✨ Features

show-notification

Displays a system notification using the default notifier for the current platform.

Common parameters for all notification tools:

• title: Notification title
• message: Notification content
• sound (optional): Play a sound (default: false)
• wait (optional): Wait for user action before removing the notification (default: false)
• icon (optional): Path to the icon file (.ico, .png, .jpg, or platform-specific)
• timeout (optional): Time before the notification expires (in seconds, Linux/Windows)

show-notification-macos

Displays a notification using the macOS Notification Center. Additional parameters:

• actions: Array of action button labels
• closeLabel: Label for closing the notification
• dropdownLabel: Label for the dropdown menu
• reply: Enable the reply feature

show-notification-linux

Displays a notification using Linux notify-send. Additional parameters:

• urgency: Notification urgency level ("low", "normal", "critical")
• category: Notification category
• hint: Notification display hint
• app-name: Application name

show-notification-windows-toast

Displays a notification using Windows Toast notifications (for Windows 8+). Additional parameters:

• appID: Application identifier
• shortcutPath: Path to the shortcut file for the notification
• install: Path to the installer when the notification is clicked

Displays a notification using Windows Balloon notifications (for Windows 7 and earlier). Additional parameters:

• type: Notification type ("info", "warn", "error")

Displays a notification using Growl. Additional parameters:

• name: Growl application name
• host: Growl server host
• port: Growl server port
• sticky: Keep the notification visible
• label: Notification label
• priority: Notification priority (-2 to 2)
• sender: Notification sender

📦 Installation

Development

1. Install dependencies:

npm install

2. Build the project:

npm run build

3. Start the server:

npm start

💻 Usage Examples

Using VS Code

To install quickly, use one of the one-click installation buttons at the top of the README.

To install manually, add the following JSON block to your user settings (JSON) file. You can do this by pressing Ctrl + Shift + P and typing Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON).

Optionally, you can create a file named .vscode/settings.json in your workspace to use it.
