🚀 Quick Start

Before you start, make sure you have installed the playwright environment:

npx playwright install

Installing via Smithery

To install rednote-mcp for Claude Desktop automatically via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install @JonaFly/rednote-mcp --client claude

Global Installation via NPM

# Global installation
npm install -g rednote-mcp

# Initialize the login, and the cookie will be automatically recorded in ~/.mcp/rednote/cookies.json
rednote-mcp init

Installation from Source Code

# Clone the project
git clone https://github.com/ifuryst/rednote-mcp.git
cd rednote-mcp

# Install dependencies
npm install

# Global installation (optional, for convenient command-line calls)
npm install -g .

# Or run directly, such as initializing the login
npm run dev -- init

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

1. Initial Login

You need to initialize the login before using it for the first time:

rednote-mcp init
# Or run directly from the source code
npm run dev -- init
# Or select login in mcp-client

After executing this command:

1. A browser window will open automatically.
2. It will redirect to the Xiaohongshu login page.
3. Please complete the login operation manually.
4. After successful login, the Cookie will be automatically saved to the ~/.mcp/rednote/cookies.json file.

2. Configure the MCP Server in Cursor

Add the following configuration to Cursor's settings.json:

Configuration instructions:

• command: It can be the rednote-mcp command after global installation, or use npx to run directly.
• args: It must contain the --stdio parameter to support Cursor's communication method.

Development Process

Debugging with MCP Inspector

MCP Inspector is a tool for debugging MCP servers, which can help developers check and verify the behavior of MCP servers. Use the following command to start:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector npx rednote-mcp --stdio

This command will:

1. Start the MCP Inspector tool.
2. Run the rednote-mcp service through the Inspector.
3. Provide an interactive interface to check requests and responses.
4. Help debug and verify the implementation of the MCP protocol.

⚠️ Important Note

1. You must execute the init command to log in for the first use.
2. The Cookie file contains sensitive information, so avoid disclosing it.
3. It is recommended to update the Cookie regularly to avoid expiration.
4. Make sure you have installed the Node.js environment correctly.
