🚀 Workflow

1. VSCode Extension Startup → Automatically allocate an available port to start the SSE server.
2. Auto - Configuration → Update the ~/.cursor/mcp.json configuration.
3. Cursor Connection → Connect to the MCP server via SSE.
4. Command Execution → AI can directly use the VSCode command tools.

🛠️ MCP Tools

vscode.executeCommand

Execute a specified VSCode command.

• Parameters: commandId (required), args (optional)
• Examples: Format a file, open settings, save a file, etc.

vscode.listCommands

List all available VSCode commands.

• Parameters: filter (optional) - Filter string
• Return: A filtered list of commands.

📋 Detailed Steps

1. Clone and Install Dependencies

git clone https://github.com/louisfghbvc/mcp-vscode-commands.git
cd mcp-vscode-commands
npm install

2. Compile and Package

# Compile TypeScript
npm run compile

# Package the extension
npx vsce package

3. Install to VSCode/Cursor

• Open VSCode or Cursor.
• Go to the Extensions page (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + X).
• Click the "..." menu → "Install from VSIX...".
• Select the generated .vsix file.

4. Start the MCP Server

• Open the Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P).
• Execute: Start MCP Server.
• The extension will automatically:
  • 🔍 Find an available port.
  • 🚀 Start the SSE server.
  • ⚙️ Update the ~/.cursor/mcp.json configuration.
  • ✅ Display a success message.

5. Use in Cursor

• Restart Cursor.
• AI can now use the VSCode command tools!
