🚀 Skolverket MCP Server

The Skolverket MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides AI assistants with access to all of Skolverket's open APIs – the Curriculum API, the School Unit Registry, and the Planned Educations API. By connecting to the MCP server, you can use AI to search, find, compare, and analyze all the data and statistics available in Skolverket's open databases.

🚀 Quick Start

It's easy to connect an LLM / AI chatbot to the MCP server. You can either connect directly to the hosted server (simple and convenient) or install it locally. Below are guides for different clients.

AI Chatbots

ChatGPT (Web)

1. Open settings and enable Developer Mode.
2. Create a new connection with the URL: https://skolverket-mcp.onrender.com/mcp.

Claude (Web)

1. Go to claude.ai:
   • Log in to https://claude.ai.
2. Open settings:
   • Click on your profile (bottom left).
   • Select "Settings".
3. Add the MCP server:
   • Go to "Developer" or "Integrations".
   • Click "Add MCP Server" or "Connect".
   • Name: Skolverket MCP
   • URL: https://skolverket-mcp.onrender.com/mcp
   • Click "Connect" or "Add".

Local Installation

Claude Desktop

1. Clone and build:

git clone https://github.com/KSAklfszf921/skolverket-mcp.git
cd skolverket-mcp
npm install && npm run build

2. In Claude Desktop:
   • Settings → Developer (not Connectors!)
   • Click "Edit Config".
3. Add to the JSON file:

4. Save and restart Claude Desktop

Note: Local installation uses stdio-transport via the Developer section, not Connectors.

✨ Features

The server connects to three of Skolverket's open APIs:

1. Syllabus API:
   • Curricula (LGR22, GY25, etc.), subjects, courses, upper secondary programs with knowledge requirements and central content.
2. School Unit Registry:
   • Search and filter schools, preschools, and other educational institutions. Includes active, closed, and inactive units.
3. Planned Educations API:
   • University College programs, Swedish for Immigrants (SFI), Adult Education (Komvux), and other adult education programs with start dates, locations, and study schedules.

Tools

The MCP server implements the MCP protocol with support for:

• 41 tools – 17 for the Syllabus API, 4 for School Units, 17 for Planned Educations (including upper secondary education, statistics, documents), 3 for Support Data, 1 for diagnostics.
• 4 resources – API information, school types, curriculum types, course and subject codes.
• 5 prompt templates – Course analysis, version comparisons, adult education, study guidance, course planning.

For Teachers

• Course Planning: "Compare the knowledge requirements E and A for Swedish 1 and suggest assessment tasks."
• Thematic Work: "Find all upper secondary courses that have sustainability in their central content."
• Assessment: "Show all knowledge requirements for grade C in Biology 1 and explain the differences compared to B."

For Students & Parents

• Program Selection: "Compare the Natural Science Program and the Technology Program - which courses are mandatory?"
• Course Selection: "What math courses are available in upper secondary school and which ones build on each other?"
• Grading Criteria: "What is required to get an A in History 1a1?"

For Research & Analysis

• School Registry: "Find all active upper secondary schools in Stockholm County."
• Course Offerings: "Which schools offer the Economics Program in Malmö?"
• Curriculum Analysis: "Analyze how the concept of 'programming' has evolved in curricula from 2011 - 2025."
