What is Godot Peek MCP?
Godot Peek MCP is a bridge that connects the Godot game editor with AI assistants (such as Claude). It focuses on providing visibility during game runtime, enabling AI to help you debug games, view real-time output, inspect game states, and even control the game execution flow. How to use Godot Peek MCP?
Follow these three simple setup steps: 1) Download the MCP server program; 2) Install the plugin in your Godot project; 3) Configure your AI client (such as Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) to connect to the server. After completion, you can use natural language instructions to let AI help you debug games.Applicable Scenarios
It is most suitable for game developers to use in the following scenarios: debugging runtime errors, monitoring game performance, testing game functions, automating test verification, demonstrating game states in teaching, and validating rapid prototypes, etc.Main Features
Scene Control
Run, stop, and restart game scenes, and support setting startup variable overrides.
Output Capture
Read the content of the Godot output panel in real-time, including print statements, error, and warning information.
Debugger Integration
Access debugger status, stack traces, local variables, and performance monitoring data.
Runtime Inspection
View the node tree and properties of the running game without pausing the game.
Screenshot Capture
Capture screenshots of the editor view or the running game.
Expression Evaluation
Execute GDScript expressions in the running game to query or modify the game state.
Breakpoint Control
Set and clear breakpoints, and control the code execution flow (step, pause, continue).
Advantages
Focus on runtime debugging, filling the gap where AI cannot directly view the game running state.
No need to manually operate the editor. Complex debugging tasks can be completed through AI instructions.
Support multiple AI clients (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.).
Provide a rich set of debugging tools, from basic output viewing to advanced breakpoint control.
Automatically detect project changes and intelligently connect to the corresponding Godot instance.
Limitations
Only support Godot version 4.4 and above.
Currently only support Linux x86_64 and macOS arm64 systems.
Require installing a Godot plugin, which increases project complexity.
Users of external editors may not be able to use the breakpoint function.
Manually exclude plugin files when exporting the game.
How to Use
Download the MCP Server
Download the pre-compiled binary file corresponding to your operating system from the GitHub Releases page and extract it to a convenient location (e.g., ~/tools/godot-peek-mcp/).
Install the Godot Plugin
Copy the addons/godot_mcp folder from the extracted package to your Godot project directory, and then enable the plugin in the Godot editor: Project > Project Settings > Plugins.
Configure the AI Client
Configure the MCP server connection according to the AI client you are using. Here is an example configuration for Claude Code:
Start Using
Restart your AI client. Now you can use natural language instructions to let AI help you debug Godot games.
Usage Examples
Debugging Startup Errors
When the game crashes during startup but the error information is unclear, use MCP to automatically run and capture detailed error information.
Checking Game States
During game runtime, check the attribute values of specific nodes to verify if the game logic is executed correctly.
Performance Analysis
Monitor the performance indicators during game runtime to identify performance bottlenecks.
Automated Test Verification
Create automated test scenarios to verify if specific functions are working properly.
