MCP Cosmosdb Go

🚀 Implementing an MCP Server for Azure Cosmos DB with Go SDK

This is an example implementation of an MCP server for Azure Cosmos DB built using its Go SDK. The mcp-go project serves as the Go implementation for MCP.

This MCP server provides the following tools for interacting with Azure Cosmos DB:

• List Databases: Retrieve all databases in a specific Cosmos DB account.
• List Containers: Retrieve all containers in a specific database.
• Read Container Metadata: Obtain metadata or configuration information for a specific container.
• Create Container: Create a new container in a specified database with a defined partition key.
• Add Item to Container: Add a new item to a container in a specified database.
• Read Message: Read a specific item from a container using its ID and partition key.
• Execute Query: Execute a SQL query on a Cosmos DB container, optionally with a partition key range.

🔧 RBAC Permissions and Authentication for Azure Cosmos DB

• The user principal you'll use should have permissions (both Control Plane and Data Plane) to perform CRUD operations on databases, containers, and items.
• Authentication:
  • Local Credentials: Simply log in locally using the Azure CLI (az login). The MCP server will automatically use the DefaultAzureCredential implementation.
  • Alternatively, you can set the COSMOSDB_ACCOUNT_KEY environment variable in the MCP server configuration:
