A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides access to BigQuery. This server enables Large Language Models (LLMs) to inspect database schemas and execute queries.

📦 Installation

Install using Smithery

To automatically install the BigQuery server via Smithery:

Replace {{PATH_TO_REPO}}, {{GCP_PROJECT_ID}}, and {{GCP_LOCATION}} with appropriate values.

The server implements the following tools:

• execute-query: Execute SQL queries using the BigQuery dialect.
• list-tables: List all tables in the BigQuery database.
• describe-table: Describe the schema information of a specific table.

Build and Publish

To prepare the distribution package:

1. Synchronize dependencies and update the lock file:

uv sync

2. Build the release:

uv build

This will create source and wheel distributions in the dist/ directory. 3. Publish to PyPI:

uv publish

Note: You need to set PyPI credentials via environment variables or command parameters:

• Token: --token or UV_PUBLISH_TOKEN
• Or username/password: --username/UV_PUBLISH_USERNAME and --password/UV_PUBLISH_PASSWORD

Debugging

Since the MCP server runs via standard input and output, debugging can be challenging. For the best debugging experience, we highly recommend using MCP Inspector. You can start the MCP Inspector with the following command:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector uv --directory {{PATH_TO_REPO}} run mcp-server-bigquery

After starting, the Inspector will display a URL that you can access in your browser to start debugging.
