Installation and Configuration

Using Standard Input

Execute the following command in VS Code:

npx -y @azure/mcp@latest server start

Using SSE

1. Open a terminal window and run:

   npx -y @azure/mcp@latest server start --transport sse
   

2. After the server starts, it is hosted at http://localhost:5008 by default. To change the port, add the --port {YOUR-PORT-NUMBER} parameter.
3. Add the SSE configuration to your MCP client, for example:

Authentication Mechanisms

The Azure MCP Server integrates DefaultAzureCredential and supports the following authentication methods:

1. Environment Variables
2. Shared Token Cache
3. Visual Studio Account
4. Azure CLI Login
5. Azure PowerShell Login
6. Azure Developer CLI Login
7. Interactive Browser Login

To enable production environment credentials (such as managed identities), set the environment variable:

AZURE_MCP_INCLUDE_PRODUCTION_CREDENTIALS=true

Security Considerations

All credentials are handled by the official Azure Identity SDK to ensure security. Please follow relevant regulatory requirements when integrating the MCP Server and client.
