🚀 Model Context Protocol

The Model Context Protocol (MCP), introduced by Gaurav Kabra, is a standard proposed by Anthropic. It provides a standardized way for Large Language Models (LLMs) to interact with external tools, functions, and context.

The MCP enables the model to:

• Request real-time information
• Perform operations on external systems
• Access specialized knowledge
• Invoke APIs and services

We made improvements and obtained the third image, as shown below:

In the above image, MCP is similar to a USB hub. Since it is a standard, changes will be made in a unified manner. Therefore, there is less likelihood of API breakage because each MCP server is now maintained by independent companies (such as Yahoo or Google), and we only need to integrate with them.

📦 Installation

mkdir mcpserver
npm init
npm install @modelcontextprotocol/sdk

Configuration

Now in the Cursor IDE, click on the settings gear -> MCP. Create a file named mcp.json and add the following code:

Replace args with the absolute local path (full path) of index.js.

Now, the tool add should be available:

You can press CMD + I and ask to add two numbers. You should see the response we wrote in index.js.

STDIO (Standard Input/Output) is ideally used locally, while for remote use, we use SSE (Server-Sent Events) transport. Please refer to this for more information.
