Worker 17 is a comprehensive system designed to monitor and control the operations of a virtual worker, offering real - time status tracking and task management capabilities.

🚀 Quick Start

Set up the development environment

# Start the server
cd server
npm install
npm start

# Start the web application in another terminal window
npm install
npm start

WebContainer Mode

For development and demonstration purposes, you can run the server code directly in the browser via WebContainer:

# Run WebContainer in the development environment (automatically build server code)
npm run dev:wc

# Build WebContainer for the production environment
npm run build:wc

# Preview the production - built version of WebContainer
npm run preview:wc

This mode allows you to run a Node.js - based development environment in the browser without starting a separate server process.

Docker Container Deployment

You can also run the entire system via Docker:

docker-compose up

Note: If you are using WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) without Docker Desktop installed, there is a bug in the current version that prevents ports from being exposed correctly. The workaround is to run the container in host network mode, but this may pose certain security risks as it bypasses the container's network isolation features.

MCP Inspector Tool

You can connect to the Worker 17 MCP server via MCP Inspector and view the worker's status information. Select the SSE transport protocol and set the Worker 17 server address to http://localhost:4000/sse (or the actual running server address).

Claude Desktop Configuration

Currently, Claude Desktop does not support direct connection to the SSE MCP server. To use the Worker 17 MCP server, you need a proxy Stdio MCP server. After testing, [mcp - proxy](https://github.com/sparfenyuk/mcp - proxy) is recommended. After installation, make sure to add the tool to the system path (e.g., the bin folder in the user's home directory on Windows). Then, you can add the Worker 17 MCP server to Claude Desktop's configuration file:

Ensure that the Worker 17 server is running properly before starting Claude Desktop.

• MCP Integration: Compatible with Claude Desktop, supporting AI - assisted management of Worker 17.

📚 Documentation

Worker 17 initially started as a joking project and later evolved into a research exploration of the SSE MCP server. Although the project seems a bit absurd, it provides an interesting way to learn the MCP protocol.
