MCP Server 101

This project is a practice project for the MIT Hack decentralized AI summit, demonstrating how to quickly set up a Claude MCP protocol service on Windows. It includes two examples: a weather application and an SQLite database, which respectively demonstrate government API data acquisition and bakery inventory management functions.

What is a Claude MCP protocol server?

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server allows Claude AI to obtain specific functions through locally - run microservices, such as weather data queries or database operations. These servers expand the capabilities of Claude.

How to use an MCP server?

You can start local services through simple configuration files and command lines. Claude will automatically discover and integrate these functions. The basic setup can be completed in just 5 minutes.

Use cases

It is suitable for scenarios where Claude needs to access local data or specific APIs, such as enterprise data queries and personalized service integrations.

Main features

Weather data service
Obtain real - time weather forecasts and alert information through government APIs
SQLite database interface
Provides complete SQL query capabilities, especially suitable for local data management
Simple configuration
Quickly integrate into the Claude desktop version through a JSON configuration file
Advantages
Rapid deployment - Complete the setup within 5 minutes
Local operation - Data does not leave your machine
Modular design - New services can be flexibly added
Limitations
Basic technical knowledge is required for initial configuration
Currently only supports services implemented in Python and Docker
Exclusive feature of the desktop version of Claude

How to use

Install necessary tools
Ensure that Python and uv (Python server) or Docker (database service) are installed
Get the service code
Clone the repository or download the example service files
Configure Claude
Add service configurations in the settings of the Claude desktop version
Start the service
Run the startup command for the corresponding service

Usage examples

Weather warning notification
Automatically obtain detailed information when a weather alert is issued in a specific area
Inventory management
Monitor the inventory levels of bakery ingredients
