This is an MCP server designed for Hydrolix, which offers several useful tools to interact with your Hydrolix cluster.

Tools

• run_select_query

  • Execute an SQL query on your Hydrolix cluster.
  • Input: sql (string): The SQL query to be executed.
  • All Hydrolix queries run with readonly = 1 to ensure their security.

• list_databases

  • List all databases on your Hydrolix cluster.

• list_tables

  • List all tables in a specific database.
  • Input: database (string): The name of the database.

💡 Usage Tip

Due to the differences in various LLM architectures, not all models will actively use these tools, let alone use them efficiently. Even with well - crafted tool descriptions provided to the models, they are rarely used appropriately. To achieve the best results when using the Hydrolix MCP server, we recommend the following practices:

• Use the name of your Hydrolix database and request tool usage in your prompt (e.g., "Use the MCP tool to access my Hydrolix database, please...").
  • This encourages the model to use the available MCP tools and minimizes hallucinations.
• Include a time range in your prompt (e.g., "Between December 5, 2023, and January 18, 2024,...") and specifically request the output to be sorted by timestamp.
  • This prompts the model to write more efficient queries to take advantage of primary key optimization.

📦 Installation

Configuration

The Hydrolix MCP server is configured through standard MCP server entries. Refer to your client documentation for the specific location and method of declaring the MCP server. An example setup using Claude Desktop is provided below.

It is recommended to start the Hydrolix MCP server using the uv project manager, which will install all other dependencies for you in an isolated environment.

Environment Variable Configuration

Required Variables

• HYDROLIX_HOST or host

  • Default: localhost
  • Set the host address of the Hydrolix server.

• HYDROLIX_PORT or port

  • Default: 8088
  • Set the port number of the Hydrolix server.

• HYDROLIX_USER or user

  • Required
  • The authentication username for logging into the Hydrolix database.

• HYDROLIX_PASSWORD or password

  • Required
  • The user's password for authentication.

Optional Variables

• HYDROLIX_VERIFY_SSL or verify_ssl

  • Default: true
  • Set to false to disable SSL certificate verification (not recommended in a production environment).

• HYDROLIX_DATABASE or database

  • Default: None
  • Setting this value allows you to automatically connect to a specific database instead of the default one.

By configuring the above settings and environment variables, you can successfully configure and run the Hydrolix MCP server and fully utilize its provided functions to manage and query your data.
