🚀 New York Times Article Search MCP Server

This is a TypeScript-based MCP server that allows you to search for New York Times articles published in the past 30 days based on keywords. It demonstrates the core MCP concepts in the following ways:

• A tool for searching articles
• Integration with the New York Times API

🚀 Quick Start

Development

Install dependencies:

npm install

Build the server:

npm run build

Development with automatic rebuild:

npm run watch

Debugging

Since MCP servers communicate via standard input and output, debugging can be challenging. We recommend using MCP Inspector, which is provided as a package script:

npm run inspector

The Inspector will provide a URL to access the debugging tool in the browser.

📦 Installation

Installation via Smithery

To automatically install the New York Times Article Search for use with Claude Desktop via Smithery:

npx -y @smithery/cli install nyt --client claude

Manual Installation

To use it with Claude Desktop, add the server configuration:

🔧 Technical Details

Environment Variables

Create a .env file in the project root directory and add your New York Times API key:

NYTIMES_API_KEY=your_api_key_here

Running the Server

After building the project, you can run the server using the following command:

node build/index.js

The server will start and listen for MCP requests via standard input and output.
