🚀 Pinecone Development MCP Server

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standard that allows code assistants and other AI tools to interact with platforms like Pinecone. The Pinecone Development MCP Server enables you to connect these tools to Pinecone projects and documentation.

Once connected, AI tools can:

• Search the Pinecone Documentation to answer questions accurately.
• Assist in configuring indexes to meet the needs of your applications.
• Generate code based on your index configuration, data, Pinecone documentation, and examples.
• Upload and search data in indexes, allowing you to test queries and evaluate results in your development environment.

This MCP Server focuses on enhancing the experience of developers who use Pinecone in their technology stack. It is designed to be used with code assistants. Pinecone also offers Assistant MCP, which extracts relevant information from your knowledge base and provides it to AI assistants.

📦 Installation and Configuration

To configure the MCP Server to access your Pinecone project, you need to generate an API key in the console. Without an API key, your AI tools can still search the documentation, but they won't be able to manage or query your indexes.

The MCP Server requires Node.js. Please ensure that node and npx are available in your PATH.

Next, you need to configure your AI assistant to use the MCP Server.

Configure Cursor

To add the Pinecone MCP Server to your project, create a .cursor/mcp.json file in the project root directory (if it doesn't exist) and add the following configuration:

You can view the server status in Cursor Settings > MCP.

To enable the configuration globally, add the configuration to the .cursor/mcp.json file in your home directory instead of the project root.

It is recommended to use rules to instruct Cursor to use the MCP Server correctly. Please refer to the docs for some suggestions.

Configure Claude Desktop

Locate the claude_desktop_config.json file by navigating to Settings > Developer > Edit Configuration. Add the following configuration:
