This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server implementation designed to manage Claude memory and knowledge graphs.

📦 Installation

You can install the package using uv:

uvx memory-mcp-server

Or install it from the repository:

uv pip install git+https://github.com/estav/python-memory-mcp-server.git

💻 Usage Examples

Basic Usage

After installation, you can run the server with the following command:

uvx memory-mcp-server

Configuration

The server expects the following environment variables to be set:

• DATABASE_URL: The URL of the SQLite database used to store the knowledge graph
• Add any other configuration variables...

Integration with Claude Desktop

To use this MCP server with Claude Desktop, add the following to your claude_desktop_config.json:

Advanced Usage

Development

1. Clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/estav/python-memory-mcp-server.git
cd python-memory-mcp-server

2. Create a virtual environment and install dependencies:

uv venv
source .venv/bin/activate
uv pip install -e ".[test]"  # Include test dependencies

3. Run tests:

pytest                    # Run all tests
pytest -v                # Run with verbose output
pytest -v --cov         # Generate a coverage report

4. Run the server locally:

python -m memory_mcp_server

Testing

This project uses pytest for testing. The test suite includes:

Unit Tests

• test_knowledge_graph_manager.py: Tests for basic operations on the knowledge graph
• test_optimized_knowledge_graph_manager.py: Tests for optimized/batch operations
• test_server.py: Tests for the MCP server implementation

Running Tests

# Run all tests
pytest

# Generate a coverage report
pytest --cov=memory_mcp_server

# Run a specific test file
pytest tests/test_server.py

# Run tests with verbose output
pytest -v

Test Fixtures

The conftest.py file provides some common test fixtures:

• temp_db_path: Creates a temporary SQLite database
• knowledge_graph_manager: Provides an instance of KnowledgeGraphManager
• optimized_knowledge_graph_manager: Provides an instance of OptimizedKnowledgeGraphManager
